I have what i believe to be a lifter going south. I have a gen V 454 so i cannot adjust the rockers/lifters. At the end of the season i plan to change it out. Should i upgrade to "next size up". I don't plan to drop any money into any head work. If anything maybe a new set of aluminum heads for weight savings and a little HP gain. Or a simple valve job on my heads. Or stock 049 heads. Anything bolt on really! I am running a 750 non dp holley, air gap, and logs. That i will definitely keep the same. Either way, the cam and lifters gotta go. It is a roller cam. I am happy w current performance. About 4900 Rpms. So stock cam or performance upgrade?  All opinions are cool. Thanks. Oh, its a 18ft Eliminator bubble deck w berkely jet,  place diverter, and ride plate. Thanks again.

Call Comp Cams and give them your set up. They will advise you on your options and it's free.

i think you answered your own question? if your happy leave it alone. my advise is to keep an eye on the lifter that is going. and at the end of the season when you want to take the heads off deal with it then.

My gen V was not a roller, (are you sure yours is?) and needed a adj rocker set-up for a performance cam. I went to 781 (049 are the same) heads, and roller rockers, and ditched the peanut port heads. I'd keep the cam, replace 1 lifter if needed, and save your money for the new top end, then upgrade the roller (i'll never use a flat tappet cam again). them rollers will last years, have a sbc roller cam with 130,000 mi on it BEFORE it went into the boat, 7 years ago (+/- 300 hrs since) and runs like a swiss watch

Make sure that you get a Gen V / mk IV compatible head gasket, ask me how I know.
factory roller Camshaft, lift (i/e): L29, Hydraulic roller, 0.480" / 0.483" hydraulic
Cam duration (i/e): L29, 204 / 209 degrees @ 0.050 lift

It just seems like all that work just for new lifters is not worth it. Might as well do a new cam. But then again ... the price of a cam for MAYBE more MPH? Hmm. Just looking for best value. Maybe the best value is just fixing whats broke and leaving whats not.... thanks for the input. DAMN HOT RODS! you can't ever just leave em alone. Any more opinions?

Anyone know if. roller rockers are available for my mark V non adjustable valve train?

I went with Teague marine roller rockers. Designed to fit under standard height valve covers. Full set for under $300.
