Whats the quick fix for super tight steering.  grease? or is the only realy fix just running a new cable?

Probably a new cable. You MIGHT get away with removing it and flushing it with brake cleaner and oil, but for the cost of the things, the trouble to R&R it, and it's safety importance, best to just change the silly thing. Might have to change the Helm as well (new helm usually comes with the cable anyway if you buy from JBP, Cyclone, CP, etc).

Other things to look at first, though, since this is a new-to-you boat and lord knows what sellers will do to a boat to get it "ready for sale". Check the steering tube the cable comes out of to make sure it's clear, the pin bushings on the jet nozzle itself, the geometry of the cable, and (Seen this once last summer) the bolt securing the steering cable to the tiller arm on the jet. Needs to be a proper length shouldered s/s bolt tightened down with a nylock nut underneath making sure it stays put. One I seen had a regular bolt, over tightened, binding the cable end from pivoting properly. That point needs to pivot freely.

thanks! Ill be researching cables today.  I checked everything else out and nothing seems to be over tighned or kinked anywhere.  I had to replace a new cable on my parents wakeboard boat once before.  this feels similar just didnt want to do it if i didnt have to. 

Took it out yesterday and i got a workout just steering the bitch around! haha

i put a new teleflex steering kit in mine and its almost TOO easy to steer now.  i swear i can flick the wheel with a finger and it does like 3 full spins. at WOT it doesnt get much tighter either.

I had that same exact thing with Pickle! After changing out the notchy/tight cable/helm, was wayyyy tooo light! A drill, a tap, and a backrest knob off a yard sale office chair yeilded an original looking deal to increase drag on the helm and it steered more like a car 

In retrospect, Maybe a few extra small o-rings stuffed up inside the steering cable before it's attached to the steering tube might have accomplished the same thing.........But my original helm had that aforementioned dealio and I found out why!
