Title: another problem
Post by: Havasukona455 on March 26, 2012, 02:04:21 PM
finally got the motor started and went to hook up the water to run it and check timing. hooked the hose up to the water line and it floods the motor  :banghead: :banghead:   no idea why it did that. when running it with the hose before pulling the motor it worked fine. anything different now that i am running stacks and not through the transom ??

with headers the water shouldnt be turned onto the exhaust at anything lower than like 1800-2k rpms.  so if you need to run it on the trailer, turn the valve to the exhaust closed, valve to the motor open.

theres a few ways to control water flow to the exhaust with rpms... one is electronic aka "banderlog" which turns off water flow under a certain RPM

another is just running a hose from the thermostat housing exit up to the front drivers seat to a valve where YOU physically have to control the flow.

fancy valve

or hell just run a 1/4 turn brass valve from home depot.

i have never messed with one of those water injetion modules. but i would say start there. Run the water to the motor and just remove the injection module and let the water pour on the driveway. see if the motor runs with the headers taken out of the cooling loop. that would eliminate part of it. and cut troubleshooting in half.

You should probably start by describing how you have the system plumbed.

What do you mean by "floods the motor"?

Did it fill the oil pan with water?

Is it filling a cylinder?

Did you have the engine started before you turned on the water?

check the spring and check ball in the t-valve had that problem once remember tho hose bib has more pressure than it would coming off the river.

i think i figured it out. i had the gate valve on the wrong side. i need to put the gate valve on the water line going to the basset t and then to the headers right ? the cyclinders filled up with water and got in the oil. good thing it didnt start. i got all the water out but now i gotta suck all the oil out. went and got a small cheapy syphone yesterday but didnt work worth a shit. i gotta see if my buddy that has a mechanic shop will let me borrow his sucker. got oil and filter yesterday just need to get the oil out and hopefully it will fire up. annything else i should do ?? i dont really need to run water to the headers when its on the trailer correct ? it just keeps the headers cool and muffles right

Since you asked: I'd squirt some Wd-40 into the cylinders ASAP to keep the rings from rusting to the bores, and the valves from rusting to the heads.  Then turn it over several times with the plugs out to help spread it around....

is that good for it though ? it would get into the oil as well

Wd-40 won't hurt it.  People been doing that for decades.  The goal is to soak up the moisture so your rings don't rust to the walls.  Might already be too late though.  I've also heard of people using mixtures of ATF & kerosene.
