Pulled my 049's today only to find one head is irrepairable :-\ decided to spend the money on aluminum. Builder recommends Vic jr's. Any reason not to go with them.( mainly can get a deal). ???

Take em over to Bostick or call him...619-792-3885 He's off 2nd and Dawnridge

i have never owned a set! but i have never seen a set go bad or have major issues.

yes I got the complete top end pro 1 kit for mine

they are good heads as long as they are part of your combo, they can be the worst set of heads if they dont fit your combo. there are better heads out there but, they may not be rite for your combo. an engine is a set of parts that are matched and mated to run together. if bostic told you to get them ask him why? then ask him if there are better heads out there suited to YOUR combo.
hope this helps, yes i run a set of e-brock heads
-
How about a set of AFR's? I used to run those on my mustang and had great results with em and they cost roughly the same...

Something about port velocity with the small rectangle ports. I told him I'd buy whatever he recommended. I guess with my big ass barge ( 21' open bow bahner)he wanted to keep the grunt in the bottom. For the money these were the best choice.

That is what I originally intended on buying. I was told waste of money for my intended use of the boat.

Listen to Bostick...he did my pump an motor as well. No need to second guess or ask here.

What is this "grunt in the bottom" you speak of?

Don't really plan on spinning her more than 5500 or so.. So may as well keep all the power in the bottom end.
-
Just to be a tool, you really want the "grunt" at the top..... 8)
You just want to be sure that the valve train geometry and camshaft choice matches the port design of the heads, personally I'm not seeing the Vic Jr.'s being a good choice, but know little about what you are building.
Personally, I am all about big round ports, I don't like to see rectangles unless we are talking over 6K RPM or artificially boosted (turbo, supercharger etc...)
If your motor guy is recommending them, it wont hurt his feelings if you ask why or ask if he has somewhat of a case study on another JET boat.
I don't like to be told something will or will not work unless somebody can back it up with a reason why. Or at least a theory of how.

edit;
there is a problem that I can't seem to get past... grunt at the bottom always means oval port, you are saying rectangle, hmmm...
Also, on a centrifugal pump, there is no such thing as "grunt" at the bottom....

I'll keep it simple.
Ran Edelbrock heads twice. They both gave me wood and no failures.....
End of story......

So your saying the brand name was enough? Does not matter port design, chamber size/shape, intake volume...
Cool!
Interesting, betting this is not the end.... :sly:
>:D

good deal? I'd be on 'em like a Hooker who found a millionaire!!!!
Ain't much better heads made. IMHO

Thing with the Edelbrock heads is this.
They will flow with the best C3/D2 (Including the OE And the PI heads)/D1 heads out there. Understand this. Those were based on existing numbers.
Edelbrock heads are conformed to the low compression crown, 93 CC or more CC volume, OR the more performance end at 99CC or less. AND at 75CC or less, the Victor.
Lets build this engine...............Blown or not!!!!!!!

Hoping to bring it in today.

Vic jrs are a "small" rectangle port. Not like the cast iron heads.
