fuel tank diagram
« on: July 21, 2009, 10:08:05 AM »
My friend is looking on how to setup his fuel tanks. Although he is to far from me so I can't see it but he has two side saddle tanks that he is going to install and he wants to be able to switch from tank to tank with a fuel gauge. Does anyone or can you point me to a wiring diagram with the parts needed to set this up? You can email me at martyjm@pacbell.net

Thanks

Is running 2 tanks or one? does he have a selector switch? If it is 2 tanks and no selector just make sure the lines coming from the tank are the same length to a tee and from the tee to the fuel pump and pump to filter/ water seperator and then into the carb.

yes it will

the only bad part is hopefully it will pull fuel out of both tanks at the same rate. if you decide to do it this way then make sure the hose lengths are equal and preferably have the same bends when routing them.

what would he need to use one tank at a time then switch over to the other when one runs low? thanks for your help. Thats the way I'm trying to tell him to do it.

I have done it on a truck with a 3 way rocker type switch (on-off-on) and 1 fuel pump for each tank.  The up position would activate one pump and the down position would activate the other.  Im sure you could wire in the sending units the same way on the same switch since everything is 12 volt.
