Anybody else run av gas ? ;D at 4.81 a gallon its a pretty good high octane alternate lol

Yes, I run it in my boat and everywhere else I can. I use it in my lawn mower, snow blower, weed eater. It is an inexpensive high octane alternative to race gas, so long as compression is not too high. I use it as detonation insurance in my boat, and I have never had any troubles with it. It has stabilizers in it so it stores well. There is absolutely no alcohol in it (which reduces mileage), it is 100% gas. I found that the small engines I run like it much better than pump gas.

Use caution with AV gas and do a little research of your own. In most cases you will come to the conclusion that it is not the best idea. If you do decide to go that route don't forget the Marvel's mystery oil. Good luck :thumbup:

We we're going to run it in our motor but found out it was going to hurt our motor so we don't use that stuff. Jim is right do some research before you run it

Ran aviation fuel for many years. Not sure what you guys are referring to. Other than being quite "dry" there really is no negative I can come up with that would hurt an engine if properly tuned. I do run some Lucas fuel treat in the tanks, but would love to hear some more input on this.

Just seems to me like there are very mixed conclusions to this. I ran it in the blower motor a few trips no problem, asked 2 motor builders and Greg shoemaker and they all said ok just run some marvels mystery oil. But yet had a few other people say to me "your motors still running". I personally came to the conclusion of a 50/50 mix "110 & 91" when I put it in the CP. Not that I will be running AV anytime soon but I would love to hear anyone's horror stories.

Hahaha I had no clue there was such heated debate over this
My engine guy who is very reputable turned me on to it years ago
So there never added any extra additive or anything either

One thing I would be curious about is, the difference between a regular engine and an AV gas engine being torn down for a rebuild.
After running for an equal amount of time and conditions, tuned perfectly, how would combustion chambers, valves seats, piston, etc look.

GT I only see a couple problems with AV gas that no one seems to talk about. If you are running on the lean side and change to Av gas at 15% lower density could be trouble with a lean condition. I have read enough about the use of AV gas for other then air craft. A lot of guys change jets and or fine however most just run it and they are not sure how lean they are. I have no proof on the additive for the AV gas it seems know one agrees on this some guy add some sort of treatment other and automotive gas. But it seems like the vast amounts of folks run it straight. There is a lot pro's to running this fuel also price, strict monitoring and shelf life is longer.

One big issue for some is that A/V gas is formulated to burn cold air at high altitude. Jet boats in summer are needing the exact opposite from their fuel. Correct jetting will be essential for max performance.

Which should go without saying. But it's said here. Hee hee.
As for the density comment, if you are switching from a pump fuel that contains alcohol to AV100, the jetting differences are so minor that it barely needs to be mentioned. Unless you ate ragged edge tuning, it should not be an issue. The fuel temperature should also be kept as low as possible as well. We use damp towel and shade on the cans when sitting in camp. We have noticed crazy vapors coming off the fuel cans on stupid hot days. The stuff definitely had a lower vapor point.
I would be willing to bet you cannot find one instance where an engine literally smoked itself due to the fuel all by itself. There were likely other contributing factors.

A/v is what should be referred to as real gas it does not have all of the added Chems in it like the crap we have to put in our cars! The airplane industry moves at a snails pace when it comes to technology so they really don't just put stuff in and see if it works like they do to car gas!!! So if you can get !!! Run it!

I have run AV gas for over 25 years in my big block Chevelle for street and drag racing use and have never had any sort of issues. I have dynoed engines with straight AV gas a mix with 91 pump and of course pure blend race fuels. I know AV gas can not be categorized as a race fuel, due to a few things like certain additives like an Ethylene glycol de-icing agent and such, but never seen any problems from it and it does have an average of 2 grams of lead per gallon. It is somewhat a dry fuel so I too am a fan of adding some Marvel Mystory Oil to it, I add approx. 2-3oz per 10 gallons. As a boat owner now too, I run about a 50/50 mix of AV and Chevron 91. I don't have a high compression ratio, it's right at 10.0:1 with iron heads with some decent ign. lead, so as a jet boat engine can see some pretty good loads I just want to be safe in avoiding any detonation. When I had my boat engine on the dyno tuning it, we ran the 50/50 mix of AV and 91 and then drained all the fuel out and put in VP C-12 and lost power, but there are many factors for this. I'm not building enough cylinder pressure to need a high octane race fuel, so I will continue to run a mix of AV and pump for my application. So to sum things up in my opinion I would not shy away from using AV gas for any minor performance application. :thumbup: As far as horror stories and tall tales of damage to engines running AV gas, I have never herd of any in my years to tell of.

There's a lot of mixed feelings on using av100 we have run it the race car for year's never had a problem with it at all but I think it might depend on condition and set up on your motor

I run it in my boat, lawn mower, weedeatter, atv, and have even ran it in my vehicles in a pinch.
I always add a quart of Marvel oil per 100 gallons of av gas. Never a problem. And it stores very well. I also always have it around and it's a write off
