Title: Anyone use exhaust spacers?
Post by: ka0tyk on May 03, 2011, 10:00:05 PM
I need to move my exhaust out like 1/4" so my valve covers fit... was thinking about getting a set of spacers.  im just wondering that these are 3/4" and it might throw off everything exhaust wise...

I would think they would work fine in most applications, but you may have ab issue being that your exhaust tips to manifold is one section.  The only other issue would be having to seal two surfaces with gaskets and hoping that nothing gets distorted or starts to leak.  Have you tried to mount one to see how far the tips are off or if they can be tweeked?

You can do a mockup by cutting wood spacers and bolting it up.

I had an issue with my logs not clearing the ARP head bolts I used on my rebuild. I was able to grind a dimple in mine with a DREMEL tool, but it was a pretty crude way of doing it, and it only "just barely" works. Spacers would have been a much better way to do it, but I was in a hurry to get out on the water that day.

The spacers that I have seen were very expensive, might be easier to change valve covers or modify them.
