The smaller cut impeller will help if your motor makes more power at higher r's. The only way to know is to try it and see. If you are 500 plus I would think it would help. That info and a quarter will get you some gum at the grocery store.

My engine is built for higher r's will take alot more than the pump will. 6500 or better.

Like said above what cam ? where does the engine make power ? If truly to 6500 your a canidate for a Bronze or stainless and yes a "B" and possibly smaller Tom

The cam is a hyro. only reason is for maintenence reasons. But it makes power 3200 thru 6000 the torque falls off a little after that. But from what I understand these pumps loose effieciency after a certain rpm , right?

Jet's are very inefficient at LOW r's.

Jet's are very inefficient at LOW r's.

Jet's are very inefficient  period ;)

The higher the RPM the engine makes it's top numbers after about 5200 RPM (varies with different mods) the less efficient the pump becomes, strictly due to cavitation.

In most applications (exclude full on race stuff) you need to have the engine matched to the pump (or vice versa) otherwise you are wasting your time.

If you need to turn 6,000 RPM to get the max HP/torque and have a hydraulic camshaft and it's not a roller cam, 1st, I need to see this focker  :o     2nd, a B impeller at 6,000 R's will eat up a buttload of HP (like in excess of 700 HP) and sustainable torque will be hard to come by (meaning it may never get there.....).

If you can get some specifics (a dyno sheet would be ideal) on your build, someone on here uh hum Tom/Josh uh hum can point you in the right direction....

I have owned/driven a bunch of jet boats, only one ever turned over 6,000 (and was worth a damn), it made over 850 HP and was capable of over 110 MPH but only weighed in at 1420# full of fuel (lets just say not made of fiberglass) and it turned a stainless steel AB Berkeley in a heavily modified pump.

Take the time to do the research, it will pay dividends in the end...And probably keep you from spending money doing stuff twice.

Hope this helps... ;)

If I believe everything my gauges tell me... my pump is just starting to get really well loaded at 5200 r's.(70ish)  I have a tunnell...I don't know if that makes a difference.

Bet it's not stock  :)...Also would bet everything I will ever have it's not a JE...... ;)

The harder you run, the harder the pump is supposed to "load". If it didn't, things would ugly in a heartbeat...

Just so you guys know that I am no expert when it comes to jets, the reason Im askin these questions, I just want to know what to expect if I go ahead with what I got. As far as the engine goes no dyno here dont have that kinda coin right now. I built the engine off of the specs of my uncles old engine, was a drag car guy. Ther is no way Im pushin 700 anything but I know it pushes a respectful 600- 630 range.

Also by me saying it will take higher r's I mean that everything is matched on it for it. Iknow it wont push the pump that high. If you guys like I will post the specs on it and you can give me a honest opinion.

Ok here is the specs on the BBC for the boat. It is a 1973 4 bolt block. 781 heads ported polished, 2.19/1.88 S.S. valves
850 Holley
Cam: .256/.266 Dur. @.050 .595/.621 lift
Pistons: 12.8 TRW forged
Rings: Chromoly Race rings
Rods: H-beam forged
Push rods: Titanium
Rockers: S.S. rollers
Springs: Matched to cam
Retainers: 10 degree titanium
Bored out to 460 CID
Torker 11 on it for now and I plan on a tunel ram
Pete Jackson Drive

I think thats about the jist of it from what I remember, by the math my HP/TQ #s should be close. I know it runs like a MOFO.

Like I said I am still new to jets But I can build a engine.

OH yeah it has a forged crank as well. The B impeller question refer to what can I expect as far as performance I know Im not going to hang with the big boys. I just want to out run my buddy that brags about his $60,000 checkmate. He runs 65 mph and if I can pass him ever so slightly Im happy. I just want to shut him up.
