If you have your starter connected straight to your battery do you need to still connect a battery cable to the external starter soleniod.. I mean its only a 8 gauge wire that feeds your instruments and ignition ??? Or will it draw too much from the smaller ignition wire at start up...

I think what your talking about is the slave solenoid, you only need the large cable to the starters solenoid, the porpose of the slave is to bost the fallen voltage to the solenoid on the starter motor so it will get a full signal to pull the armature in all the way.
So you need a smaller gauge wire going from the battery terminal of the starter to the slave and back to the "S" post of the starter form the slave and your rockin'

Um ::) Ok so if i just run a 8 AWG wire from the batt to the slave soleniod i would be good to go. The less batt cables the cleaner it looks ;)

FWIW, I see no value in running the cable through the slave (maybe someone can clarify this for me ??? )

Dude, shitcan the ford stuff, if your starter dont work after the wires go to the dash and back use a little relay, they're about an inch square.

HD, he's using the solenoid as a junction block for the dash power, which I happen to think is a good idea...Still don't get the running the cable through it though :screwy:

Origionally he was going to run a top starter, and it would have been good to go, don't make him redo it :'( He's so close.... ;)
The way he has it now is how Mercriuser, Marine Power, Indmar, Volvo Penta, among others do it, why reinvent the wheel? ???
Besides, troubleshooting with that solenoid is easy, because you can hear it pull in from the dash ;)

This remote method takes almost all of the wire away from the block and exhaust manifolds. This method also allows easy bump starting at the solenoid. The equivalent GM solenoid part is U939. It is identical to Ford.

Sooooo the question still stands......Why would you run the main cable through the slave solenoid? It seems to me you could potentially be adding to the problem by "double switching" the main battery power to the starter motor. Just my .02c
Sort of like having two light switches in series on a table lamp, Makes no sense...

I didnt know chev made motorhomes, chassis maybe w/ 14 foot Batt cables. If it works no need to bump start but if need be bump start at the starter. It only eliminates one wire at the starter, your dash power, you still have a batt cable and a jumper from batt cable to "S" terminal. but anyway, sounds like he's got it figured out
