Title: BBC 454 engine oil
Post by: dvotaw on June 06, 2012, 10:32:39 AM
Hi All,

I just picked up my first jet boat and wanted to change the oil before I take it to the river. I have a 18ft Advantage open bow running a BBC 454. What type of engine oil and weight is recommend?

Thanks

Do you know if it has a roller cam or a standard flat tappet cam?

Knowing this will help us give you an educated recommdation.

I recommend a premium racing oil or a good diesel that still contains zink.  I'm running Chevron Delo 400 15w/40 diesel oil in my BBC.

The cam is a standard flat tappet cam.

The Valvoline VR 1 is perhaps the easiest to find,, most of the parts stores sell it.  I like Brad Penn oil, but it's not going to be as easy to find.
