Title: bbc cam choices...
Post by: walshmotorsports on May 22, 2008, 04:16:06 AM
Just wondering what cams are the best bang for the buck on lets say the basic 454 pump gas single carb (750-850 cfm) through transom exhaust. Tough decission for me with log style exhaust, (new son in boat) very restrictive. I don't mind a good solid either. What are you running???

Comp 280 and 292 are popular cams in jet boats.

I have an olds with through trans. exhaust and went with the comp 280 because I was told that the duration on the 292 was a too much for not running headers.  It has a choppy idle, but nothing too crazy.

I can't figure this one out. There are no reversion problems with logs, only with headers.  ???

A 454, 10:1 compression, Comp 292, large oval port heads, all else correct = 500 HP on pump gas.

It had to do with restriction of exhaust flow, but that could be bs.
