Adjusting Valve lash
« on: May 21, 2008, 08:40:45 PM »
On my olds 455 can i adjust the valves while the motor is running, loosen until you hear the tap then tighten until it barely goes away?

Most Olds engines I've seen have non adjustable rockers, they use a bolt that is torqued down, from the factory they have an aluminum pivot that is prone to wear, if your hearing rocker noise I'd take the covers off and inspect all of them, if you have replaced all that with an aftermarket adjustable setup you can disregard what I just said.

Do you know what the aluminum pivot is called, so that i can maybe order some from summit? or is it worth while to just by adjustable rockers for a "stock" motor?

gregb is right(non adjustable) on my olds I picked up the  adjustable kit, but I prolly could have got by with just some slightly longer pushrods.
