BBC Gaskets
« on: March 08, 2012, 01:49:31 AM »
So lets talk gaskets....

I've been trying to price out a gasket set and it's got me a little confused...I have a 4 bolt main with 990's (rectangle ports)

the gasket kits I have been looking at vary in price by nearly double. The rectangle port kits of course are more expensive by a land slide.

So can someone point me to a decently priced rectangle port bbc gasket kit? i need the works. head gaskets included.

I was wondering would it be worth it to buy the less expensive oval port kit then just buy the intake gaskets separate?

...or should I just drop the $150 on a damn gasket kit?

I normally buy the standard "full" gasket kit and buy the softer performance type intake kit seperately.

ok, so can i buy the full kit for oval ports? is there any difference between the rectangle and oval kits other than the intake gaskets?

Last time I went with the one piece oil pan gasket also (nice piece, and helps eliminate the chance of leaking at the seams)

Looks like I am a day late to be helpful, but for marine engines I like to use premium gaskets, meaning one piece silicone pan gasket, silicone valve cover gaskets, appropriate head gaskets for the type of engine, IE compression, boost, etc, and decent intake gaskets.  The "good" pan and valve cover gaskets cost quite a bit more, but are reusable and don't leak.
