How do you know how much to punch out a cylinder? I found a set of pistons on Ebay 0.30 over but i dont want to buy them if 0.30 aint enough I mean how much is 0.30 over anyways? The pic sucks but it might give you a better clue on what im asking, The cylinder is pitted do to rust and its at standard bore right now. Think 0.30 is enough or wait for what the maching shop say's.

man that things focked up, you need to take it apart and send it to the machine shop and ask them, then go from there

First, a little math refresher.....0.30 over size would put you into the water jacket on most engines. What you meant to type was .030.....One is 3/10ths of an inch, the other, more desirable figure, is 30/1000..Be very careful buying pistons used, there are numerous ways that pistons are worn out, but the most obvious is cracks from pressing OFF non bushed rods. If you really want to shop ebait for pistons, then look for some "new" in the box, +.060, with verifiable manufacturers part numbers. Why not buy new from Herbert or Summit, or PAW, or? There are some good deals, and you can pick and choose the exact piston for YOUR application, instead of using someone else's castaways..........Oh, and Forged only, no cast pistons for marine use.........MP

MP, thanks for the math lesson   I am not buying pistons on ebay i  have found a set of Probes .030 floating pins FT with valve relief. And yes they are forged at a smoking price i cant pass up.  As far as the block go's the machine shop said .030 should take care of it, it looks worse than it really is.

I am just waiting for this Holiday shit to get over with so i can go back to spending all my $$ on whats important

I was going to buy a set of Probes then a couple people on HB started flaming them. I believed the quote was "turn em upside down and use em as ashtrays". Of course I could not get an answer to why they were junk which is usually the case. I get so tired of people telling to something is crap with no explination why.

Yeah i listened to too many people when i started this engine build, when they said it was trash i sold whatever it was that i just bought.  Now i get answers to why they think it is no good. Im not doing that again i could of had this motor built if i just listened to people that knew what they were doing, not people that think they know what they are doing and giving an opinion of a part that they have never even used

Too much bullshit out there and not enough straight talk.  You ask a question and you want the truth no matter good or bad.  To me thats straight talk

Picking a engine builder is just like picking a doctor , they are all going to have their opinions and experiences. Find one you trust and like and does not get bothered by lots of questions and stick with what he says. And then tell everyone else to kiss your ass.

If you don't like what he has to say get a second opinion.

My best advice on an engine builder is to find one that does not sell parts. My engine builder is a racer and a machine shop owner and nothing else. It can be hard to find but if he recommends something to me it is not because he needs to clear out some old stock he has etc. He only uses what works and what makes him look good when a customer is happy.
