I'm turning to the experts for an answer on this. Best starter for a BBC with 9.8-1 compression !  Thanks  in advance

2001 corvette starter 168 tooth flywheel. Google it. Autozone. Works great on mine. Lifetime warranty. Lightweight.

Interesting... hadn't heard an LSx style starter would work on an earlier SBC/BBC.  If that's the case I'd highly recommend getting an LQ9 starter (same KW rating as Corvette) because it has more reinforcement in the mounting area.  The passenger car starters only have a small flange on one side which can break if there's a kick-back or hydro-lock.  If that happens all the starter's torque is transferred to the 1 remaining bolt.  At best the bolt will bend, at worst it'll snap off and possibly take a chunk of bock with it.  Common problem on LS1s that can be avoided by using the truck starter. Google it ;)
