Ceramichrome headers

So putting a ceramichrome coating on a set of headers...does this keep the lower portion of the headers from blueing when they are water injected? Does it keep the rust from between the pipes from happening? What's the pros and cons of it? Does it last?

You're going to pay for what you get. Not all coating companies are created equal.

I had it done on a set that I ran dry, no water injection. A very high end hot rod shop sent them out for me to the only coater they will use. The prep work was where the money was well spent.

I ran them for over a year and they literally looked new when I sold them. No dulling or greying (which they tend to do).

They will last a long time with nothing more in maintenance than a wipe down. Do yourself a favor and make sure you don't shop a coater based on price and you'll be happy with their longevity.

That all makes sense. I just saw a pair listed that said they had just been coated. I don't run dry so mine are still chrome at the tops after 30 plus years but getting pretty well used up on the lower ends. Guys got the coated ones listed for 700.00 with water lines and a Bassett T so price was not way out of the ball park I just never been around any that were coated.

Coating can cover up imperfections so just check them out really well. Not saying this is the case in yours but just make sure the usual spots like the weep holes and inner areas around the collectors were prepped well before coating.

One benefit to the coated pipes is that they will be quicker to cool off. The heat tends to stay more insulated inside the pipe. I could touch mine in half the time I could when they were chrome.

The coating will never have the natural chrome look but will outlast any chrome header.

$700 seems a bit high for me,
I got a set of Bassett twisties I'm picking up from enbee later this week and they are stamped 1978, torn up,they've come highly recommend on the board here and all my other boating buddies I'll post a pic when I get them

Yea 700 I was not going to pay but it's Craigslist and I have bought and sold there and have learned to start high lol

I've had great luck with Sam at Young guns powder coating in rancho Cucamonga. They take the time to really prep and blast all their parts.

So curious is it possible to coat just the bottom half of the hearders? Since that's really to only part that blues pretty bad when they are water injected. Leaving the upper half chromed and shiny...

My headers have been on the boat 30 years and the tops look great but the bottom half that's another story
