I have a 70 camaro with a 350 lookin to put a 454
Considering selling the olds 455 and swapping for
The less tempramental more fuel efficient 350 for the boat

What do u guys think
What problems lie ahead for the swap

crewchief is correct. build a screaming 350 for the camaro and build a screaming 454 for the boat   

ok guys, change of plans got a free 350!! cant go wrong, however needs to be rebuilt but thats code for a small beast 

What are going to be issues swaping from the 455 to the 350?
what do you recommend for a good powertrain combination for family boatability and power going threw this thing??
any suggestions would be appreciated

If I already had a BBC I would not switch for gas savings - I burn both 12 gallon tanks on a day trip(we ski/tube alot).

Yes, it's a true marine engine - even has a water pump...runs 180 all day, 50 or 100 degrees outside.

The package actually has the same power of a stock bbc...my freinds stock 454/berkley has nothing on me - pretty damn close.

Still burn the same amount of gas though. My quadrajet is as large as his Holley.

What is the differance from a sbc @ 5500RPM or a bbc @ 5500RPM......PUSHING A JET?

two exactly built motors.....in 2010....sbc vs bbc....understand mild / stock,,,,,,350/375 hp........each, pushing the same jet........

There will be weight difference.  May not be that big a deal if you are using the boat as a cruiser.  If it is an issue you can always add big cooler of beer to make up the difference.    Mounts and exhaust will have to be modified but I am guessing you have that covered.  The important thing is jets like torque.  Every body likes to talk horsepower but torque turns the impellor.   I have mildly built 540 in my boat.  Makes over 650 Ftlbs of torque at 49-5,000 Rpm on pump gas. If you want similar performance of the olds 455, you may have to go down a size on your pump impellor.  Similar to putting taller gear in your camaro.  Means you turn the 350 higher to do the same thing.

someday just because i love the sbc i wanna build one for a jet! Just to see whats going to happen...why not?? I did try to convince my dad on trading motors, because he wants a more reliable less crazy valvetrain bbc vs the less reliable more crazy valvetrain SBC he is running in his nova! But his 420+ inch sbc does make over 600HP with 14-1 compression...but that hp is way high in the rpm range...he tore the motor down to have it gone through for this next season, and the rockers well they didnt fare so well...they roller tip portion of the rockers was actually seperating...i guess my point is that you can make some serious hp with a SBC, but the reliability and maintnence is going to come with the price! I am not against it though, but if i was going to do it...well hands down it would be either an LS1 or LS2! I would just build that SBC for the camaro, and a nice turn key BBC for the boat...a nice pump gas deal in both, and call it a day!
