Title: Boat lost spark?!
Post by: jonnygarcia on May 19, 2013, 09:57:24 PM
Was testing my boat today at Elsinore, was going good for about a minute then shut off while cruising at about 3 grand. Replaced distributer and still no spark., then replaced coil and still nothing.. Only thing left to replace is the baliss resistor.. And other ideas why spark would just stop??

Imma hit you with a buttload of questions...K?

Does the distributors rotor turn when you crank the engine?  (didn't see that one coming did you?)

Do you have voltage going to the (+) terminal on the coil?

Do your gauges cycle when you turn the key on?

Have you tinkered with the wiring?

Do you have an electric fuel pump with the three pole oil pressure switch?

Got it ha after replacing dizzy and coil, and re wiring ballast resistor. (Witch did nothing) I switched out the electronic igniter with points and I got spark, after a quick call to summit I learned the electronic igniter and coil must be same brand because they must be the same ohms, mine were different brands, pektronic igniter with an excel coil, burned the igniter after about an hour of run time.
