Title: Bolt and washer.. Just laying there..
Post by: Hawaiian22 on July 04, 2012, 04:07:42 PM
Hello..!! I need some help, and kind of quick. I had my boat out, and it ran really good. When I got home and started the normal boat cleaning ritual I noticed a large bolt and washer laying beneath the motor. I am thinking that it may be a motor mount bolt, or related to the metal "strap" that is part of the mounting. I cant see anything under there except: Each side has 2 bolts of the same size and diameter holding the mount to the block, and one long bolt holding those mounts to the boat. The bolt specs are 3/4(Shaft, without the head)x7/16 diameter shaft x 5/8 head. The bolt is gold, and says rockalloy eight on the head. The motor is a Ford 460.

im wondering if anyone may have an idea.. Its not the oil drainplug, and the oil pan bolts seem to be smaller.

Thanks.!!

I would visually inspect the motor to see where it came from and if you can't find anything look again. Get a flashlight or feel around to see if maybe you can feel where it came from if you can't see anything obvious. Check motor mount feet, the mounts where it bolts to the block, check the bolts on the driveline, intake mani bolts. Maybe even the exhaust manifold bolts. Basically check every square inch. Another thing is maybe it was there before and just rolled out from where ever it was hiding. Let us know what you find.

Betting it is a bell housing bolt.

Im hoping that its a bell housing bolt, that was under the engine and rolled out.. However, I just had the motor out before my last trip and cleaned the bilge.. Hmmmmmm.?!?!?!

Im leaving for a week trip to Havasu on Sat, so I may pull the motor... Damn.!!

could start pulling it til you find an empty hole. I just rebuilt carb on the day cruiser. I picked up a rag off the manifold and heard, tink tink tink. Oh shit, I found three nuts for the carb. I took a magnet and went down the ports, pulled thew manifold and could see the valves! Next I took a nut and taped it on a stick to see if it would pass a valve. Mind you this was over a period of two days, searched the bilge, cleaned boat and tools all out. Told the ole lady I was looking for a SCREW and the boat WIIL NOT  run til I find it. So she says ya want me to look for it? So I'm thinkin yea right, I just looked for two days, it'll keep her busy. Twenty minutes later i'm like, well how we doin? She says all I've found was this NUT which she's had in her hand most of the time. It was on top of the fuel pump mounted on back of the head. I'm like, Ok we'll saee if we can make that one work.....but keep looking  >:D

I love it.. I had something similar happen to me at Glamis. I think it was a rotor bolt or nut. My girl at the time, wife now found one.. I said, what are the chances of finding one that would work.. ;) I think it was on the oil cap.. Jeeeez.

I found where the bolt goes.!! It was a motor mount bolt, that must have backed out, or I forgot to tighten it. Either way.. a massive relief..!

I lost one bolt out of the whip strut brace inside the boat at the stringer. I just ran Ralgh right out of the no wake zone at blue water and the boat was vibrating and howling. I called the tranny shop and it was on it's way...then I found the bolt.

One time in Orygun I went these peoples house who were like part time tweekers. I pulled up on the lawn on my Harley and was working on my dimmer switch. FUC I lost the little ball and spring on the grass! This dudes ole lady came out there and found this shit TWICE, I dropped it again!
