Title: Building a 454 finally!
Post by: glamissandman on March 02, 2012, 07:45:11 PM: Ok ok guys so i sold the 455, got rid of the good running motor and its finally time for another motor. My dads hooking me up with his stock 454 out of his 55 Chevy pick up. Definitely going to go through the motor break it down repaint it yada yada. But i need some insight from you guys who know more than me on what needs to be done to the 454 to switch it from street to h20. Any tips and knowledge would be greatly appreciated. I'm pretty good at rebuilding motors so i know most of everything you'll talk about, and if not, that's what the old man is for haha. Thanks appreciate it! It will be somewhat of a budget rebuild.

You want the tolerances a little looser on an open cooling system "marine" engine.

I believe he's refering to all of your bearing clearances, piston to wall etc. :thumbup:
