Everything is ready to go on the diverter.
Re: mounting the cable. Better to run it as low as I can ( thru transom plate) or run it higher thru-hull? Any opinions regarding this? Any advantages ... disadvantages for either??

Just for general knowledge, the longer the radius of the cable, the better they work.
That being said, it has to look good too.
I am not a huge fan of going through the TA, but I can't see any reason to not do it....

I used a push on hose npt fitting that I cut in half then fit into transom with hose over...Solid and will keep then line from UV damage or cracking.

On a low transom, I go over the transom, rather than drilling another hole, keeping the radius' longer too.

Thanks for the input. :thumbup: I had contemplated doing that too....... but I wound up drilling the hole, it was easier and came out cleaner than I thought it would.... (I was stressing about that :o / ) I ran it under the rear seat and engine cover.......... It gives a good loop for the cable to function smoothly. :) After I drilled the hole I ran the cable and checked function, I mixed up a small batch of resin and sealed the hole edges.
There is a small gap between the steering cable tube and the steering arm , so I bought a small nylon spacer and ordered a longer SS bolt and that will take care of that. ( yes, I know the bolt is upside down in the pic ::) )
Its getting closer..... ;D

here is the opening I made for the diverter cable. I had put painters tape down to keep it from chattering, but that was a bad idea....it jumped the first instant I touched the saw to the hull..... :mad: :mad:
I pulled the tape off and then slowly and carefully made the hole.... I ran it backwards thru most of the transom, and then forward for the last bit. .... (maybe I just screwed up, :banghead: but even though it gouged the gel coat, the cable seal covers the chip.)
I'll post another pic of the finished product.
The other pic is the gap in the steering tube bolt to the diverter arm. I found a nylon spacer that fits very good, and have a new bolt ordered as the old one was a bit short .
getting closer..... the weather is actually starting to warm up..... low 80's forecasted for the rest of the week, and NO☻ &%$#@*%^ rain!!!

Just get some touch up paint to match and run a small bead of silicone round it once fitting is in...You could get a gel coat repair kit if you can match the color as well.

I was stressed when I drilled the hole.... :o ..........but it turned out fine. It operates smoothly and I am OK with the results.
