This is the story guys...

So far the vessel and I have about 10 trips under our belt since bought about 3 months ago. Never really had any problems with her until the last Parker trip.

1st day I took her out, which was Friday and she ran great. Didn't want to push her too hard so I kept it around 35-4K. On the way back to the ramp I noticed my secondaries wouldn't kick in so I took her out.

2nd day at the launch ramp she fired right up. I made sure on the trailer the 2nderies were working and I launched her. Right off the line she was missfiring and acting up, next thing I know I took a glance at my water temp gauge and it was showing 240 while my water pressure was at 12psi so I shut her off. OVERHEATED! I waited about 30min till the temp dropped to 180 and started her back up. My oil pressure was at 60psi and she started cooling down.

The problem: My oil pressure at idle is at about 65psi and 50 when warm is that ok? Don't think I have a blown head gasket cause there's no water in the oil. Also I'm getting the weirdest sound ever, something I've never heared on any "car" before. Between 1500 and 2500 rpm I'm getting a "gurgling-grinding" sound. Above 2500rpm the noise is gone. I took apart the pump and my pump looks ok. No visible damage. Did I blow the motor? Is it my main bearing? From my knowledge the main bearing will make a grinding noise if it was anything else it would make a knocking sounds the higher the rpm the louder it would get. Right or wrong? I also took the oil filter off and poured out the oil and there were no metal shavings in there.

Is there a way to determine if my bottom end is ok without taking the motor out and flipping it to take a look at it? I will be disconnecting the pump today just to make 100% sure that it isn't the pump. Any advise/help is appreciated.

I`m in Bellflower. Sounds exactly like water boiling but only when the boat is on water. The noise goes away after about 2k-2500 rpm. When I forst fired it up my water pressure gauge while accelerating slowly was showing water pressure going in so i didnt bother looking on the water temp gauge. I was lucky to glance at the water temp gauge a couple of seconds later and thats when I noticed it overheating.Timing has been checked and its good. Currently the boat fires right up and stayes running. Oil pressure is at 60 psi and I`m getting the grinding noise, when in water it it sounds like water boiling.

Don't mean to jack your thread here, but i to am having this same issue with my 455. Just got back from the lake and was running fine all day then on the way back in it hit 230 temp when i shut her down got the same sound... water boiling. I noticed when i pulled the boat out i had grassy chit on the jet. Is it possible to suck the chit into the lines and make it over heat?

IMHO it is virtually impossible to jack a 2 year old thread.....

 


And yes, debris can go anywhere water can.

Lol did not realize this thread was 2 years old, guess the guy figured out the problem .

Guess i will start by pulling water lines and look for clogs... but what else could possibly cause the over heating?

If you ran shallow in sand, the block could be full....
