This winter I replaced both of my gaskets on my snails . I used my boat at havasu for the first time this season and i had a water stream blowing out the gasket . They never seem to stay sealed and i have fly cut them so i know there straight . Can i weld them to each other? Could I have to much pressure in my cooling system??Thanks

That would be a tough welding job....They have to mate internally and externally...It is very odd for these to leak, I would have to say a major over pressurization is at work...I personally have never seen these leak like you state...
Is there a chance that you are distorting the flange by over torquing?

oh I probably did this weekend . I was so pissed I had a squirt gun coming out of my exhaust i cinched them down as hard as i could to try to seal them . Should I have used rtv in additon to the gaskets? and how do i control pressure to the cooling system . Thanks

RTV does little on water, maybe even very little, I would recommend maybe Permatex number 2...
The pressure can be controlled several ways, this is an area of great debate, on your application, I would say by adjusting a multi turn gate valve right off the pump., Other ways include a PRV (pressure reducing valve) and additional dumps...

Your risers are welded to the manifolds?

I would have thought it would be virtually impossible to do properly, most of the manifolds I have dealt with are open on the ends as far as the water ports.
You have you been Steve, the southern region treating you OK?

Hi Glenn, things are ok. Job is good. Separation from the family not so good. Going to test the housing market out and put our OR house up for sale.
Here's the welded snog (snail + log). My welder buddy whined a little bit about the job, but it was more due to age, dirt/corrosion and porosity of the castings.

He must have welded the end of the log up first? That seems like a lot of work... :-\

I guess they must have already been welded - I've never seen another pair to know what you are talking about but I understand what you mean - if the log doesn't have a flange that already seals off the water chamber then it would be a PITA to make a snog. On mine the cooling water for the log is separate from the exhaust passage.

I would recommend maybe Permatex number 2...

X2!!!! Experimented a bit before putting the O/T pipes back on Pickle with the Permatex. Still got some #1 on my thumb that won't go away...........Guess what I used.........If It ever leaks or cracks again, gonna need new logs as well.........
