Title: Carb Pros to the white Curtsey phone please
Post by: jetjunky101 on July 06, 2017, 08:24:33 PM
While I am doing some maintenance I took my carb off to freshen it up . I need some advice and/or opinions.  I removed the choke . I don't think I need it . Mabey I do not really sure . My question is what do I do with the hole that the choke arm went through the carb housing ? Can I leave it open or should I close it some how ?

I took my choke out years ago and just left the hole alone.  No apparent ill effects.  I suppose you could silicone it closed or put a tiny piece of gorilla tape over the hole on the bottom side if it worries you.

Quick question.  I have a vacuum secondary holly as well. Mine is a 780 cfm. Carb just curious if you kept the power valves in your carb ? Mine also has the choke removed I have best left that little hole open as well..

I retained both power valves to aid in drivability during acceleration and fuel economy.

You don't need the choke,  if you're worried about the hole, alil bit of jb weld will fill it nicely , I never plug mine tho.  So many boats on here don't even run air filters!  Whatever can make it's way thru that lil hole is miniscule.. 👍👍👍👍 jmo

Cool .... thanks for the info . My only concern was fuel leaking onto the manifold. I have a dog house now but will be changing that to a open engine here soon .

There's so many rebuild kits . What kit should I go with . The list is 4118 . Says 4150 725 cfm. The fast kit I think should be fine . But not really sure if it comes with evry thing I need . I got the last one from O'Reilly but they don't have the holley brand anymore .
