Title: carb queston.....
Post by: Luckie Stiff on November 12, 2007, 07:42:06 PM
Is this a good carb for a mild BBF in a jet?

Holley Dominator

1050 CFM
Annular Boosters
3-Circuit Metering
Soft Progressive Mechanical Linkage
Center Hung Dual Inlet Fuel Bowls
Dual 50cc Accelerator Pumps
Four-corner Idle System
Screw-in Changeable Air Bleeds
Non-stick Gaskets
Notched Secondary Float with Jet Extensions

If so, is $300 for a brand new one a good deal?
What intake would you guys suggest?

TIA

I don't believe that a dominator will be very efficient on most jet boats.  There may be some boats that have high compression and run wide open 1/4 mile drags. If this is not you then, stay away from the dominator. If you use a partial throttle or let off or slow down with a dominator, they tend to load up the motor or make them fat temporarily. The dominator will act like a big 2 barrel at partial throttle. Most dominators have a progressive throttle linkage. This is not ideal for any application other than full throttle. Most engines will respond more efficiently and aggressively with a 4150 style carburetor. If you take the same engine and try both carbs, one would be pleasently surprised..... ;D The smaller the carb, the greater the venturi affect, the greater the throttle response.
On a second note, my current engine has an 850 Dper' on it and it allowed a 470" motor to spin 7k (in a flattie)......how bout' dem apples????

zackly, this carb is N.O.S. in the fact that it's NEVER been ran, it has spent it's entire 5 year life in the box, on a shelf in a local speed shop, out of sight, out of mind
