Put

find a empty quart of oil....fill it up with water 10 times. if it fits, its 10qts

If thats a chevy pan it should have a dip stick built in...if so fill to full on dip.

If the loan has been used at all there is usually a line inside that showed where oil level usually was. Like that was previously stated, fill with 2.5 gallons of water and see if it reaches line.
