Title: Check the bearings?

Is it a good idea to remove the main bearing caps and check the bearings if I am going to have the block torn down that far anyways?  They only have 6-8 hours on them, but I figured if by removing the caps I dont have to replace them I would go ahead and check.  Or is it better to just leave them torqued down?

You will have zero issue's if you take them apart and have a look and put them back together exactly where they were before you took them apart. I'd take a look at them.

Why are you tearing your motor down? Didn't you just get it put together? ???

I agree with hotrod56cars.  I do question whether it's necessary if your oil pressure behavior seems normal, but it sure wouldn't hurt to take a peek.  Besides, you may very well find something before it's too late.

Heads (1969 small chamber) are going in for some major work tomorrow.  Porting,roller rockers, big springs etc for the big cam I'm putting in >:D

Replacing the stock 6qt front sump pan with a 10qt dooley.

So I will check the bearings while I'm in there.
