Title: Chevy 350 backfire
Post by: Kyle700 on February 17, 2012, 03:42:31 PM
After and aerosol overhaul, with the distributor removed and reinstalled close to where it was before (I didn't mark it). I get a nice little backfire and smoke ring out of the carb. Should I turn a hair clockwise or counter? Can I do damage to it?  Where do I start, no pun intended?

Thanks

set it to TDC, and drop the distributor in pointing to cyl #1.  make sure you have your plug wires in the right firing order.

start it and bump the distributor to 12 degrees at idle. it should smooth out.  rev it up to 3500 and you should be at like 32-36 total.

ok i will make this really easy fir you. remove the #1 sparkplug. crank the engine over til you hear a rush of air out the # 1 hole. now put the dist in with the rotor facing the right way. thats the best way to do it.  it keeps you from being 180 out which you are.

Point the rotor@  # 1 cylinder  ;)

Looking down the dist turn it clock wise after u check to make sure Ur not 180 out get it to fire put water too it hold it at around 2500 rpm and turn the dist till it sounds good u will hear it start turning higher rpm and clear up snug it turn it off then fire and if it doesn't crank over smooth u have too much timing and should take some out clock wise is retarding and cc is advancing
