Title: converting bbc from 3pt to 4pt mounts...
Post by: ka0tyk on June 05, 2011, 07:59:55 PM
what specialty tools am i going to need to convert from a 3pt to 4pt?  im guessing a digital angle gauge so i can set driveline angle?  im going to pick up some angle and plate and hopefully grab some mounts soon...

im so tired of my 3pt mounts.  its such a PITA to get it to line up when i have to pull the motor out and slide the driveline onto the spline of the pump while getitng the mount holes to line up... plus i cant even get to the driveline bolts once its all bolted up to run it out of the water.

if you have the two mounts on the center of the engine and the one on the pump its easy no tools needed.
just get the 4 point set up and bolt the front on drill the holes, bolt in then remove the center mounts. then remove the rear and bolt up your new front mount while hanging the ass of the motor from the cherry picker. then bolt the rear plate on the block and set your feet up and drill the holes in the stringer and bolt it all up. i just did this on my nordic and it went really smooth....

Pretty much what I did to Moo as well. But now that's all coming out for a rail kit anyways...... :screwy:

This is assuming your angles were pretty good to begine with, but your momo should stay in the same location it's in now. But yeah, used the 3 point mounts on a dummy block, with the 4pt front plate on, dropped it in, drilled the holes and bolted the feet, then pulled it, removed the rear 3 pt bellhousing and installed the 4 pt rear plate, dropped it all back in with the new front mount bolted in place, the side mounts bolted in place and located then installed the rear feet. Pulled it out, viola! 4 pt mounts!

so like a 3" angle with a gusset for strength and then 2 bolts into the plate and 2 bolts thru my existing stringer plates...

keep your flat bar and bolt the feet to it, much stronger that way
