Gaskets
« on: February 02, 2011, 12:11:37 PM »
hey fellas, putting new gaskets (full rebuild)  on the 455.... does anyone use any specific type or brand (quality vs cost)  for the higher volume of water pressure marine application???

Also what do you think of this do-hickie to combat the milk shake?

In all honesty it boils down to personal preference.

I have been using Fel Pro gaskets for the last 20 years and could never blame a failure on the gaskets..... :sly:

That being said, it really depends on the build. Preparation and installation techniques cause more gaskets to fail than the gaskets themselves. (IMHO)

As for the pressure relief.....I don't use them. Never will....Not saying they are wrong or not needed, but I am the wrong person to ask.

I do however use a "pill" on the outlet of the jet pump water pipe, typically a 3/8" X 1/4" reducing bushing drilled out smooth does the trick.

Let me know if you need more explanation than that.... ;)
