I'd say they're down low below the freeze plugs along the oil pan line bout the middle? Itl b a pipethread plug with a he head 1/2 or 9/16

I was kidding. They are right above the oil pan rail and in the middle of the block (front to back middle). Should be a plug that a 1/2 or 9/16 wrench will fit onto. Alot of tines they're really tight due to rust so use a socket or boxed in side of the wrench.

Once sand is in there... those are useless. A regular plug is fine an using some sort of zip tie or straw shoving it in/out of drain, turning water on/off for about 30+ minutes... You might get most of the debris out. Water will pass right over the sand giving you the illusion its all out. I stay away from the real shallow an get about a coffee cup + each side out every season.

There are four 1/4NPT pipe plugs along the pan rail of the odd bank of cylinders side of the block. These are the oil galleys that feed the main and cam bearings. It is probable that you hold one of these.

To test your theory, if you have an air compressor, you can blow air into one of the known water passages and see if air blows out of that fitting.
