Title: Crankcase evac set up

Hey guys going put lines for valve covers to headers ,was wondering if I need to run the check valves ?
Running them dry if that helps.

My understanding is that the valve is mainly to prevent the flame from a header backfire from possibly igniting the oil vapors in the valve covers and crankcase, not so much reversion.
The valve you have shown has -8 fittings, while the evac kit appears to have at least-10, although I can't see it called out. It's best to not restrict the line by reducing, so if the valve comes in a size to match the kit, that would be best. Of course the line and fittings down to the valve covers should match that size also.
It would be really clean if the valves came with 1/2 female pipe x -10, then you could eliminate that big AN fitting in the kit.

Thanks ... Every check valve I see u have to run a hose clamp. I want to use a an fitting

I've been buried in a project lately and haven't had much time to comment.

The check valves do two things. 


First,  they prevent a full blown engine fire if the engine blows up. The flash oil can ignite creating pressure in the crankcase and literally ignite the hot oil in the engine.


Second,  they create way more vacuum pull at low rpm, especially with crazy duration camshafts. At wide open throttle they may work equally well,  but at anything under that,  the check valves will out perform those without.

I wouldn't do it without gulp valves,  you can always weld a stainless male flare fitting to the gulp if you want to be OCD about hose clamps. Lol

Just be mindful that flare and AN have a different flare face angle. (30° vs 45°).

You are correct. Wrote that in a hurry,  was frying a turkey, glazing a ham and rebuilding a carburetor.
