Well I was wanting to build a wild and very different set of headers so I started brain storming and came up with an idea.
I found a pair of slip on merged collectors at the Long Beach swapmeet this past sunday for 40.00 bucks and bought them. Went home and started to hack away and this is what I came up with! An 8 into 1 collector for my 180* headers Im going to soon build ;D
It will exit in the center of the transom flat accross. What do you guys think?
-
that is gunna look badass my buddy has a set like that he runs on his sandrail i think boyd cottington made them
-
Sweet! Yeah Im curious to hear how they will sound on my motor! Its pretty loud as it is now
-
Nick i been looking for 180* headers for a while.lemme know what you come up with...by the way that collector looks sick
-
I will update pics as I move forward with this project. need to save up the money for the flanges and a bunch of U-bends and J-bends
-
Giong to attach my nick name to the top of my collector on the oval tip! ;D
-
Nick, that fits!!!!
We'll discuss 2 of those hanging out the back of my twin jet when we discuss you making jacketed 180" headers.......... >:D
Ray
-
For sure Ray! ;D
-
Nick, you're a true craftsman! Great work as always. I know 8 into 1 set-ups sound great on small blocks...i think it will sound like a freakin' indy car on a big block, I'll be excited to hear it. Maybe you can bring out to the Tom Papp deal with the 8 into 1 on there if you're done by then.
-
Here's how tight the engines sit in the thing........ This is a pic of twin SBC's in a twin outdrive version of my Ship, same year....

Twin 460's is gonna be a bigger challenge for ya kiddo!
Ray
-
Yeah thats a tight fit for sure!
-
Looks good.
One thing you may want to consider is the collector timing for the scavenging effect.
Ideally, you want the exhaust pulses going around in a circle in order, which is the whole reason for doing the 180° headers. Having the collectors merge like that right where the primaries come together might not allow that to happen. Can you keep a short lenght of secondary tube (10" or so) before bringing them together in the big collector?
-
Pat, I know there is a certain way they need to be done and all but this is my first attempt at this and there is not a whole lot of room to do shit! Im just going to go for it and see what happens lol If it adds 5 hp or takes 5 hp screw it! Im just doing this to have fun with it and to be different ;D
Thanks for your input though bud!
Nick, Not sure if I will have them done by the TP deal but im going to try ;)
-

MADSKILLZ
-
Looking good
I've got a couple questions...
Will the valve covers come off without removing the headers?
Will the headers come off without removing the collector?
Just some of the things you need to be thinking about. ;D
-
Ok....lol Yes the valve covers will come off without removing the collector ;)
No the headers will not come off with out removing the rear collector. They are 180 headers there for the tubes cross over eachother to reach the other side of the collector. The collector is a slip on deal that will have tabs with bolts to hold it onto the primary tubes. The primary tube are all individual and have to bolt onto the motor in a certain order.
-
Can't wait to see them done
-
You and I both ;D I cant wait to hear them! >:D
-
coming along just great bud
-
You and I both ;D I cant wait to hear them! >:D
Hurry up and finish them and put them on the race boat for parker!
-
Hahahaha right!
-
Ok I got the other side all mocked up. Once the pipes are tack welded to the flanges the pipes will lay together a little better. Right now everything is just layed up loose. Here are a couple more pics.
-
CHRIST NICK!!!!!
Not sure what, how, or even where to find the words to describe that, but Keep it up kid!

Ray, the audio on my phone was crappy. I went to R&D Marine yesterday and showed the gang and then fired the thing up and they all said it was BAD ASS!!! Kyle (desrtrat256) took some video with his phone. Just waiting for him to upload it on youtube.
I cant wait to show them off at the TPM and open this thing up on the water and hear what it sounds like @ 6500 rpm >:D
-
Well this is the best I can do! Kyle took this with his phone

They aren't gonna work too well with a ski rope. Oh that's right, none of you ski >:D
Sorry, kinda pissed off with the way the Chargers laid down for Oakland today AND my plumbing backing up in a major way. "It's the city's fault." That's friggin' great. I'm sure they are gonna get right on this problem.
Seriously, the exhaust looks great. This design usually results in a completely different sound. Almost sounds like it gains a few cylinders. I likey!!! Well done. Wanna build an exhaust for a dirt bike?
-
Thanks GlassCutter! as far as ur dirt bike exhaust goes I have no idea how to build the expansion chamber so its tuned properly
-
I concurr! Must be an echo effect or something, but sounds like two engines!
