Custom SP wire question
« on: June 06, 2009, 07:48:03 AM »
Thanks to earlier help, I am installing Accel SP wires... What I need to know is, do I strip just the outside wire (yellow/white) or do I strip the black conductor wire as well? ??? Unfortunately, I did the second and it has kept me up thinking all night.  :banghead:  If I did, will it still work or is this a $$$ lesson??

BTW, I really appreciate the all of the knowledge and experience on this page and for helping a newb like me.

Strip the insulation down to the black core far enough back that it folds back on itself far enough that the connector when crimped gets a good hold on the core.

X2. Do you have the Belden pliers, if you do they actually tell you on the side which stripper to use.. ;) You need about  a 1/2" of the core sticking out and crimp the hell out of them, it sucks when they fall off. I use a dap of Super Glue on one of the sides of the terminal before crimping them on (old off road racing trick), use some silicone spray to pull the boots on...(WD40 could discolor the boots).

Speaking of silicon, rather than using spray, I went to the plumbing section of Lowe's and they have a stuff called silicon grease, that stuff is the shizzles!!  A little dab goes a long ways.  Also acts a sort of a seal from moisture!
