Need some help here!
« on: July 19, 2008, 11:43:23 AM »
Ok guys have a problem with my engine and i'm stumped. It will fire and run then bog out and stall. sounds like it is starving for fuel but there is plenty dumping into the carb. The few times i got it running it would run fine but pop and then stall again. the only thing i can think is that there is something in the carb restricting it. Help :banghead:

Have you checked Dizz and do you have a coil most or some time they will act like a fuel problem to try new coil and set points could be closed to, You need air, fuel, and spark, to run, look for cheeeby
stuck in carb

Sounds like a failing coil/dist. problem here too, to check to see if its fuel related, try placing a rag over the carb to "choke" it up a bit, I sometimes dampen the rag (with water) just in case she decides to burb some fire out, betting ignition realated though.

Before you do anything expensive, do you have a fuel/water seperator filter? I am a boat tech, I have customers come in with these symptoms all the time! 75% of the time its water in the gas!!!!

How about throwing a couple of bottles of HEAT in the tanks and that will take the water out.

Sounds like your point gap may have been to wide. Convert it to electronic or buy a new electronic ignition dist.

I always have Dave Lange (in Upland) spin my distributors on his machine and allow him to fine tune the curve to insure everything is perfect.  8)

The 6M-2L is a great investment because it has the rev limiter built in which will save your engine from accidental over rev if your pump unexpectedly unloads on you. My setup is the 6M-2 with the external limiter with the Ready To Run distributor and Blaster 2 High Vibration coil and it works great. Quick starts too!

If your considering MSD I do think is a great product. Also myself I have a few hours on Westech Dyno's and for about 300 bucks the DUI dist is a killer buy! Hands down it give MSD a run just put one in my own 18ft boat and ditched the points and they do offer a marine one too. I have to say the power difference is so minimal compared to the money you save, 1 wire hook-up and is tach ready. Good luck, just trying to help you get the most for your buck!
