Title: Does Ford use fuel pump pushrods?
Post by: Danger731 on June 23, 2010, 12:26:34 PM: On my old chevy 350 the mechanical pump had a pushrod that drove the pump, you just had to make sure the tongue was UNDER the rod on installation.

Now I have a Ford 1976 460 CI block. The mechanical pump has a huge tongue. Does ford use fuel pump rods or is the tongue up against the cam lobe ?

Before you bolt the pump on, look into the pump mounting hole to verify the eccentric is in place.

Post by: crewchief22 on June 23, 2010, 05:23:53 PM: If the pump doesn't sit flush on the mounting pad crank the engine over to get the eccentric on the low side, other wise you could break the fuel pump trying to get it installed.

there is something there that looks cleaned off like the tongue has been resting on it....

I can't imagine it not being there ????

Sorry, was thinking this might be a fresh pump install as in it used to have an electric. The eccentric just bolts on and people have been known to leave them off if they were planning to not use the mechanical pump.

The previous owner put the electric on and left the mechanica bolted up, he just plugged the mechanical inlet and outlet. No blocking plate just took it out of the loop. :screwy:

Post by: SS-201 on June 25, 2010, 03:19:20 AM: There is a performance excentric that replaces the stock one. however the other one will work with stock pump the replacement is for heavy duty pumps.
