Can you run dry header at the river? Are they okay for the motor?

.  A lot of us do run dry. I have never been messed with so far( knocking on wood now)  I guess it depends on what your doing and where your at. I have heard of people getting tickets for running dry. It is not bad for the motor at all.

I'm waiting on fittings for the new headers and want to get to blythe and try to have fun tomorrow and Sunday

I run mine dry! Just converted it!  I don't think you can get a ticket for them being dry ! However you can for no baffles!!!

. A lot of us run dry in Blythe without problems. I know some guys got tickets at blue water for running dry.

I'm going to try and make the big river run it will be our first run. I learned to ski there then learned to drink beer there love that place. If I make it I'm bringing my mom it's her 60th and she love that place

Ok I'm a newbie can you explain the wet / dry header thing?  Is there a law against running dry headers?

Dry headers run very hot but do have advantages but I prefer wet it quiets the exhaust headers run cooler and if set up right are not hard to maintain. Some lakes will require baffles and wet headers. Wet headers inject a small amount of water right after exhaust leaves motor it is controlled either by a tee that has a spring in it to not turn on water until motor hits 1800ish Rpms, a manual valve by drivers seat, or I use a rpm activated switch and a electric valve so I can turn on water at whatever rpm I choose

From US Coast Guard:

§ 182.425 Engine exhaust cooling.

(a) Except as otherwise provided in
this paragraph, all engine exhaust
pipes must be water cooled.

(1) Water for cooling the exhaust pipe
must be obtained from the engine cooling
water system or a separate engine
driven pump.

(2) Water for cooling the exhaust
pipe, other than a vertical exhaust,
must be injected into the exhaust system
as near to the engine manifold as
practicable. The water must pass
through the entire length of the exhaust
pipe.
