So I'm gong to be doing some cleaning up of the boat since interior and motor is out. I have dual batts and the Manuel switch. Do I really need them? Only stereo I'm adding is a kenwood head unit and 2 6x9s. I want to clean up as much wire as possible.
Thanks

Dual batteries are nice if you play the stereo without the motor running. What I normally do is run a regular group 24 for the engine and have a smaller battery for the accessories and added insurance for starting purposes.
Do you need it? Well, I guess not until you need it.. lol
If you always go boating worth a friend, just make sure you have a set of long jumper cables on the boat. Mine are like 15' and came in a zipper bag.

when you say smaller battery how small are we talking. I have a good battery for the engine but have a good size stereo (2 subs and 4 6x9 ) came with the boat when I bought it, I just don't see the need for a deep cycle battery just to run a stereo

I think in my dad's boat we used a group 25 Optima. It weighs less than half of the group 24 lead/acid.

only time id run the radio is when motor is running, thru transom exhaust makes a quiet ride.wouldnt mind going smaller not a bad idea

I run 3 batteries, one for the engine and 2 blue tops for the iPod hook up with a big amp 2 10's, 4 6" speakers and 4 tweeters but I play it all day at the sand bar at least 6 hours plus I know it's extra weight but I'm not getting left dead.

I run two but, I thinking about removing my radio and just using my Blu tooth speaker.

Stereo or not if you have the room and or the setup why not have 2 Batt.
My first boat had 2 batteries and its piece of mind of not getting towed in or waiting to find a jump. It is a plus to run stereo off one and make sure you have a Perko Switch and wired so can isolate one and run both same time by using equal batteries

Very true.

With 1 battery I carried a charged jumper and needed it. 2 batteries is still more piece of mind to me since I installed them

Running your stereo at the beach = 2 batteries. 1for starting. 1 for stereo. The best way to go. Never use your starting battery for stereo use. It'll getcha!

I have 2 29batts an run one at a time while at the sandbars/beaches all day.

You already have them so why take them out.

I alwase run two, first is the motor bat and second for everything else. I dont run a switch just a isolator so i dont have to think about it. Last thing i want to worry about is not starting after time with the stereo at the beach.

People with loud music at the river piss me off. Call me old, its OK because I am. BUT I doubt if you want to hear my music any more than I want to hear yours. So keep the volume down unless you a the designated jukebox for an entire group of boats. Now if you will excuse me I gotta go chase some kids off my lawn.

I've now moved on to the exterior of the house. All new stone work, paint, etc. Spending money on this house like I have it😊😊😊
