Found jet boat with one in it..he thinks for 1500 ready to hit the water.
I'm not up on Ford stuff. What do I look for?? What #'s, where?  Help.

The factory 429 CJ/SCJ engine will have ALL of the following casting numbers:

• Cylinder heads: D0OE-R.  This number is located on the OUTSIDE of the head, along the valve cover mounting rail and between the 3rd and 4th exhaust ports.  Any other casting number is NOT a Cobra Jet head of any kind
• Block: D0VE-A. This number is located on the side of the cylinder block, behind the mounted starter motor and reads vertically.  Bring rags and a flashight. Any other casting number is NOT a Cobra Jet (99.8% unlikely).
• Intake manifold: D0OE-9425-C.  This number is right along side the carburetor mounting pad.  PLEASE NOTE: Virtually all Ford 460 marine engines came with the factory iron 429CJ intake manifold casting; therefore in no way does a 429 CJ intake by itself identify a Cobra Jet engine.

Motor  heads are D3VE - A2A , no way ta see the block#s with out doing some serious disassembily.
Guys story on the boat varied, I think it's a no go.

D3VE's are the most common production head of the carbuetted 429/460 engines.  Most all of them came with cavernous dished pistons beneath them and had a measely 7.9:1 c/r, which I'll bet the above engine has...it's a dime-a-dozen 460, not a CJ engine.  But being that it's in a boat, it may very well have the D0OE-9425-C iron CJ intake manifold if it is indeed the original issue 460 marine engine.

I cannot locate an SCJ vs. D3VE picture, but here is an SCJ vs. BBC 820 picture (the BBC 820 ports are about the same size as the D3VE ports):
