Title: Electrical Component Mounting Locations
Post by: Nick Engle on September 22, 2021, 05:59:49 PM
All,

New to the jet boat community with the purchase of a 1977 Hondo Jet Boat. Powered by a 460 BBF and a Jacuzzi jet drive. Not sure on Jacuzzi model though. Boat electrical needs finished up, hence the post here:

I was looking for some information on where some electrical components are normally mounted ad how wires are routed around the engine cleanly:
MSD Digital Ignition Box
Starter Relay

Also looking for information where the oil pressure sending unit and water temperature sending units are located on the engine. The engine is a fresh rebuild and those are not installed and not sure where they go.

Attached are some photos of the rear of the boat.

Thanks in advance for any help you may have. I will probably have more questions as time goes on.

On my 460, water temp in the front. Oil pressure in the rear, starter solenoid on a metal bracket close to my starter which is top mounted in the rear facing the front of the engine.

I mounted electrical boxes and such in the rear up high in the engine bay, secured with screws into composite foam that is secured via glue to the fiberglass.

I ran all my dash wires along the back and up the sides the of the boat tucked up under the ledge wrapped in black wire loom. One side of my boat had glassed in hook openings for the wire loom, the other did not. I glued in metal tabs and secured with zip ties to hold the loom and keep it tucked up.

If you want a clean look, just use wire loom and tuck as many cables as you can in a single run.

With those headers, I assume you have to remove them to change the plugs each time. Great looking engine.

Nice rigging so far. I assume this mini day will be run without an engine cover? I ask because I  have a mini day too and often think about future interior options.
