Title: Electronic conversion options for accel distributor (olds)
Post by: evilb on April 01, 2016, 01:23:21 PM
I have an old accel dual point distributor (model escapes me at the moment..will update after work) on my olds with a tunnel ram. It's working pretty good but I'd like to go electronic. As far as I can tell no one makes a kit for it. It's almost identical to a Mallory YL series but the insides are different.  Obviously I can't go hei because of the t-ram. Does anyone have some ideas for a solution? Should I try to source a used Mallory?

I have a nice Mallory unit with a pertronix conversion if you are interested. $100 plus the ride if needed.

I'd have to have it shipped to Iowa. What mechanical condition is it in? Any bearing play? How's the gear? Also, which pertronix kit is in it?

The unit is in great condition, no damage/play to any part of it.
ML-181 is the part # that's in it.

Pertronix makes a conversion kit for the Accel distributors.  See page 16 of their ignition catalog.

Mines a model 30103. Not listed. I even called them and they said no, they don't make anything for it.

Just FYI, an MSD can be triggered by points.  You wouldn't be running any power through the points, just triggering the box.
