So it seems that the problem with my boat is back. The boat will start and run strong for hours but once you park it and it cools off it doesnt run right. It will start and take off but will cut out and die shortly after plaining. But if fires right back up then will do the same thing. Ive replaced the coil. dist. Wires. Plugs. Rebuilt the carb. And has all new fuel lines aswell as pump. Anyone have any ideas on what the problem could be? Ive taken it to a shop three times and every time they change what they think is wrong the problem is still there. Any advise is very helpfull. Thanks in advance
Also motor is an indamar 454 with holley 750 vac second

Oky first thought was the coil! But since you said it was changed start looking at the coil wires!! I bet there is something there! My thought is that as it has time to warm up you get an open.
Good luck!

Does it just cut out or does it sound like it's running out of gas?

Is it a mechanical fuel pump or electric..

Do you have a Hobbs switch? Oil pressure safety switch that is on the back of the block. If you have an electric fuel pump the power from your pump runs off of this switch. When you have low oil pressure in block it shuts your fuel pump off to prevent it from flooding your engine. I would check and replace if you do.

Electric

Did you check all electrical connections?

I'd check every bit of wiring from front to rear. Also check the ignition switch

I do have a Hobbs switch. I have replaced the switch and had the same problem so we then bypassed the switch and still have the problem.

I know you said you rebuilt the carb, have you adjusted the float levels?

I had a loose electrical connection once and it did that.
It's always the parts that cost penny's that have you chasing your tail.

Yes the boat runs great until you let stop and shut it off for a while then it runs fine up intill it planes then it is like someone shut off the boat.

This is dumb as hell... But have you checked for water in the fuel?

Ya i will double check right now but the wierd thing is the boat will run all day untill i stop and let it cool down. That is the part that makes me not think its a loose cibection but you never know thanks for all the advise guys.

JUst a quick question??? where did you mount your coil??? and when you changed it , did you put it back in the same place???? Wondering if it is just getting to hot.

Coil is where (on top off the motor behing the carb) it has been since the boat was new. Not the best pic but you can see it behind the carb.

Let me guess . which is under a engine cover??? ok here is my suggestion , run it , get it to do what it has been doing , Not starting touch the coil , i bet its almost to hot to touch! if thats the case theres your prob! Now what may need to happen is a vent and a fan . but Yes move the coil off the motor , maybe to one of the walls.
Try that let me know what happens! You have me currious!!

Have you tried disconnecting the electric choke?

The coil does get warm to the touch. I will try to move it away from the block and see what happens. thanks for the info.

Sounds like a fuel issue to me. I don't see a fuel pressure gage on your setup, to verify fuel supply pressure when you try to run it after it sits.

Sorry the pic i posted was older i do have a fuel pressure gauge. We havnt seen any drop in preasure before it dies.

X2- on checking the fuel pressure- Get a gauge and verify. Normally you will get some lean pops and spuddering with fuel issues.
You are running for long periods at a time, is it at a certain fuel level? You said new distributor? but the picture does not look like a new one. Points or some sort of module? If you put in a magnet module (pertronics), I see those fail (what you described) like that all the time on a lot of the Vintage race cars I race with. We use them cause no aftermarkets billets for a Alpha or BMW 2002. Those guys always carry a spare and they just don't quit a lot of the time the cars just starts running like shit. If it is points I did not see a ballast resistor, make sure you can run without one on your particular coil and points. Manufactures will have the instructions sheets online for most all parts so you can check OHM on the coil to make sure.
Also check each electrical connection, (give a small tug) as someone said a .10c connector could be the issue once everything is warm.
good luck, lots of good troubleshooters here reading this thread-

yes the distributor is not new it was just rebuilt and has the a new magnetic module. I will go order a new module and see if thats the fix easier and cheaper then replacing the distributor at first.

I had petronics in my 75 f250 ran great then died accel coil was to hot to touch. Petronics said i had to use their coil to fix the problem. I went back to points at that time so dont know if they were right or not on their coil. Just my experience
