Title: Engine mount question
Post by: Marlin on October 13, 2008, 08:40:35 AM: My '75 Bayon has the 3 point motor mount set up. I want to run a larger oil pan but the mounts run under the original pan
with about 1 inch clearance. Would it work to use a front plate and leave the rear mount the same. I don't want to put
to much stress on the end of the pump where the bell housing mounts.

Post by: GT Jets on October 13, 2008, 10:23:56 AM: I honestly would try to pick yourself up a nice four point setup, especially if you are going to keep the boat and start adding power, the three point systems are not real strong and are outlawed by most of the sanctioning bodies for racing, which is reason enough for me to change them out.

You should be able to find a four point set of mounts pretty reasonably priced and will give a huge piece of mind. Just my opinion...

Depending on the use of the boat, I would say 400 HP is about as radical as I would feel comfortable with on the three points, they really are fairly weak IMO...As far as going full rail, probably OK with standard four points until 700+ HP, again depends on the use...Just my opinion based on nothing written...

Since the kids have dragged their feet so much getting their boat done by the end of summer (and it's still not ready :banghead:), I'll just mandate they save up a bit more and convert the mount system over during the winter months.
