I plan on installing a 454 using a four point mount set up. Do I have to use rails? I have the "feet" that came with the mounts. Can I use those with a rail set up or am I supposed to use blocks? I am going for EASIEST WAY TO MOUNT A 454. Thanks for your input.

you dont have to use rails. some mounts have the 90* brackets that bolt to the stringer and dont need to sit on anything like a plate mount does. just be sure to use a stringer washer to help with the load and so u can get em tight and not damage the stringer.

i just used some 3/8" plate instead to help strengthen.

3/8 plate might be over kill. Maybe 3/16th if you were going to go that way.
