Easy! Easier than doing a conventional Big Block in my opinion.

You will need a Rail kit, do you currently have one?

You will need an ignition system, I recommend buying the MSD one not the Edelbrock one. The MSD is more tunable

Basic cost break down

Engine 500-1500 (depending on 5.3, 6.0, age, etc)
MSD - 350
Intake (i run an edelbrock) - 300
Rail kit/mounts - 250 (i made my own)
PTO - 150 i think (glenwood marine)
Oil pan - about 150 (check ebay)

Other than that, MOST of the stuff you ahve should swap over. The ignition is super simple. You plug the MSD into the Crank and the Cam sensors and turn the key. Its that easy, fires up about instantly.

Fuel system will need to be electronic.

Coolant system is pretty simple, but a couple extra hoses.

Ill find my thread and give you a link, also you can text me any time at 909-809-6358 and ill answer any of your questions i can

My head/cam 5.3 with a small 150 shot of nitrous pushes my heavy ass rogers 85+ ran 73 on motor this weekend with GPS

heres my thread, You'll see i took alot of pictures its really a shame that first 6.0 let go.

I have since figured out why it let go. And its a big thing to make sure you dont do it.

The Steam lines that are at the cylinder heads. They pump water out. Run them overboard. not into the exhaust liek i did with the 6.0. Mine now go directly over and ive had 0 issues

I've got a rail kit installed already an I'm running the holley blue pump. I was goin to run the msd as well I've never had problem with them before. What size carb are you running?

My engine is a little bit of a freak. It likes a LOT of air/fuel.

but i have a very large cam also.

Im running an 850 Demon, jetted 86/93. A typical 5.3 and a typical cam a 750 would be more than enough. Probably a 650 would be fine

I've also been thinking of twin turbo the 5.3 or 6.0. Ok I have a 750 that's been work on so that should be plenty of carb so I guess all I'd need is a motor intake PTO oil pan an msd to get this goin plus all the stuff that makes lil problems in between

a 750 would be plenty for a mild'ish 5.3

yes.

You will need front motor plates, a BBC rear plate should (should) fit.

You will need exhaust, either headers or SBF logs. I built my own headers

PTO

Ignition

Plumbing and fittings

fuel lines/system (which you should have)

Steam port vents/adapters (cheap)

a computer with a serial port. Or let me know when you are ready and i can come by and time it if youre still in Lake elsinore

Ive wanted to do a turbo deal, but if i were to i'd go with an EFI deal. Carb'd i stuck with NA and a little bit of Nitrous. It runs damn hard enough for me. Sounds like nothing else out there either. I really want to build another 5.3 and just forge everything in it. Go at it with more nitrous.

But i think the way mine runs, some more dialing and a few pump upgrades, i hoping for a solid 90 mph run. Again my boats heavy too

I'll definitely be hitting you up I'm pretty sure 5.3 or 6.0 is they way I'm gonna go now that I know someone that's done it an it seems cheaper an faster then redoing my 454 plus lighter....found the link in projects an lookin thru it now

the MSD comes with the harness.

But there are two MSD boxes a 6010 and a 6012. You need to get an engine first, to know which box you need. A Gen 3 or 4.

My 6.0 was a Gen 4, my 5.3 is a gen 3. I bought a 6012 for the 6.0 and just switched my Crank reluctor to a 58x and used the same box for a gen 4

So you built your rail kit? Were you able to use the BBC rear plate like you mentioned? I've always been curious about LS swap stuff

I built my rail kit, front and rear plate. I assume a bbc rear plate would work. But I don't knwo because I didn't have one.

The trans bellhousing is the same. So in theory it should be fine

None of them are USB. They are all serial to program them.

I still have my same headers. I now run a ball valve at my seat and just inject water manually if I want to. Only above 3k rpm or so.
