Hello everyone. New to boating. Picked up a 79 Hallett Jet boat on saturday. Built Ford 460 the guy went on and on about upgrades during a recent rebuild. Berkeley pump. My concern was the temp. When i was waiting for some people to join us i noticed my temp went up to 240. Oil pressure was pinned out at 80. I didnt notice the running temp when i took it around the lake. Does this sound normal?

Should never run that warm , double check your line coming from the intake. Is there a valve ? Make sure it’s open !

240° is not normal.

With logs and snails, 140° at cruise, and 160 tops in the no wake zone.

With open headers, 125°-130° is fine.

This is without a thermostat.

How is the cooling system set-up?

Check to see if it has a gate valve/ ball valve . This is located to the right at the bottom of the hull looking at stern of the boat from inside check to see how far closed it is . U will have to adjust it when running to get the temp u want . That is the first thing u should look at

Give me a sec to learn the site i may do better on my computer. Responding to everyone. I haven't looked for a valve yet. But i will im also asking the PO more about the setup

It’s normally on the inside of your boat, location near or around your pump. Its looks like or is a water faucet valve. Hint the more you open it the cooler it runs, and the more you close it the hotter it runs.
