Engine Rebuild Planned for this winter.
« on: April 16, 2023, 02:23:08 PM »
I have a 454 1994 Aidadvantage, it runs pretty decent when I have taken to the to lake. My question is this is my second year owning it and was wondering at what point should I rebuild the motor? When it takes crap or before that happens. Is there any shops that do the engine rebuild if I pull the motor out and send it in? Any recomendations?

Well it is better to rebuild or refresh what you have then waiting for it to go on its own. It is cheaper to build on what you have rather then starting fresh. If you wait till a rod bearing goes then there is machine work for the crank or a new crank needed etc? I ran my 455 olds for 5 seasons before this winter and is currently being rebuilt to a 495. Any rebuild or motor build is going to cost $. First question is this your forever boat? Going to keep it for a while then put money into it. If not then run it till it goes then sell less motor and find something else.
