The shop that just rebuilt this BBF. for this guy is outa biz.
Cust. brings me the engine......I pop the pan :screwy:......# 1 Piston/rod assy not there :sly:
-
No wonder that shop is outta biz!! ;D
-
shit did we forget to put one of brads pistons/rods in :-[
-
Hmmmm, Sounds to me like he threw a rod......In the garbage.

Sounds like it's time to file charges with the local magistrate... nails in the drive way... he diserves a present of some sort for pulling that crap

damm, did that thing start?must have shaked like a mother focker :o

I was thinking the same thing! With Number 1 not there, how the hell did they ever time the thing?

As long as the plug and plug wire were there, ignition timing would be no problem.
You have to wonder what kind of tweaker the assembler was to forget to install a piston and rod.
Several decades back, an employer of mine bought a reman 318 Mopar from Automotive Engineering. It never ran right and felt out of balance. After doing a compression test and finding all cylinders on side very low, they pulled the heads and found that the pistons on that bank came up short of the deck by a fair amount. Apparently that side had the wrong rod/piston combination. How did that ever get past the assembler?

Not that part! ;D I mean initially, when you drop the dizzy in! No matter WHAT MFR of engine, you always start with the Number 1 piston at TDC to even remotely figure out where the dizzy Rotor should be pointing at, no?
On a 460 I know it is at where #1 is at TDC and #6 just starts to drop, you drop in the dizzy with the rotor pointing directly at #1. Will fire right every time. On a 454 I beleive you sub #8, but it's been a few years. How'd they initially time the MOFO???

Sorry Dave, but this has me REALLY confused how the fugger made it as far as it did?
-
reminds me of my dads horror story...he went to drop in his dizzy on his 7K drag motor and it wouldnt drop in...he shines a light down the dizzy hole and sees something blocking the path...pulls the intake and finds a snap on screwdriver laying in the valley...the screw driver went front to back of a sbc...how the hell do you miss that???? they even dynoed the motor with it in there...so my dad calls the engine builder and says hey dumbass you left an effing screwdriver in my motor and im keeping it...shoulda a been a sign right then and there that the guy was shady as hell...gotta love DYNO FLOW

You only need to look at the timing gears to put the engine at TDC #1. That and the valve position when priming the oiling system is all that's needed. In 30+ years as a tech, I've never used the #1 piston to find tdc #1 position on an engine build. Clearly, however, he did not degree in the cam.
I wonder what he did when he came across that "spare" piston and rod assembly?
-
well I would say he did more drugs :screwy:
-
I'm scratching my head too...I still can't figure out how it ran...
It didn't for long...no oil pressure even...More than one idiot here was involved
-
i must say you run across some of the craziest things when it comes to engines.
-
sound like the same guys who built my motor
i sware i have the worst luck lol
-
#1 was used as a pump to blow up the inflatebles at the lake very inovative >:D >:D

That is just unbelievable!
