Title: Engine sputters
Post by: hush909 on August 05, 2015, 11:27:33 AM
On the 4th I took my boat to Pyramid Lake and she ran pretty smooth but between 3000 and 4000 RPM'S she would sputter. It happened to me before up in Big Bear last year but I was thinking it was the altitude because when I went to the river a week later nothing, no sputter at all. Now this last weekend I was at Elsinore and it did the same thing sputtered between 3k and 4k. Idle is fine and full throttle is fine. I am running a 454 any help would be appreciated... thanx

I'm having the same problem in my 454. But I run it out in AZ, looks like my problem was water in the fuel. U running a fuel/water separator on it?

Have you pulled a spark plug to see what she looks like?  She sounds lean to me. Between 3,000 and 4,000 sure can be transition between two and for barrels (whether the secondaries come in). What carburetor are you using?

Yes I'm running a fuel/water separater...
No I have pulled the plugs but I will sometime this weekend. I have a 4 Barrel Holley carb on it

IMHO, Not being there with the advantage of taste, sound and smell,  droop the PV to about a 4.5 and go up a jet size on the primary side.

What's your timing doing?
