Title: Exhaust(headers etc)
Post by: countryboyaustin on February 22, 2007, 04:17:28 PM
Any comments or advice on exhaust. I have a 1974 eliminator daycruiser. I have exhaust logs right now and I am contemplating between several exhaust options. Over transom headers are difficult because my transom is too high above the motor, water jacketed thru transom are EXPENSIVE(1800),water injected are still like a grand or better, zoomies are cheap but loud.

ANY advice
o yeah I am running a mild BBC with rebulit Drake pump with stainless impeller and race grate intake and loader.

Your best bet for the chevy is the lightning headers . Water jacketed and pretty much a bolt on instalation . The price alone will kill you though . At my last walk around the pomona swapmeet , I found some polished stainless lightning headers in absolutley perfect condition for $800. Finding some newer ones that dont have the inside rotted out will be hit and miss at best I think .

Soooooo anyways , stick with the logs until you come across some water jacketed headers (for saftey reasons ) that you can afford , and stick under your engine cover if thats the case.

Appreciate the info. I just hate that I am losing 40 or 50 horses through those hardin logs!
That is about all the info that I had been able to find as well. I was trying to make the wife happy and keep them hidden. I really want over transoms but I gotta keep her smilin.

As soon as I get the "family" jet built and running solid I am cleared to begin building my own toy. She doesnt care what I do with that one. I am probably looking at a blower motor and zoomie headers.

The mini daycruiser will be ready next week. I kept with the logs and went pretty stock with her. However, I have purchased an older youngblood hull and a Solid 496 chevy as well as an older blower. I will be running a legend pump rebuilt by Robbie Robinson former engineer for Berkeley. I am going just stupid loud and will have zoomies running straight up. I truly dont expect to have that in the water this season but watch out next summer. ;D
